Our cheapest car rental in Christchurch starts at $95 per day for an economy car such as the Toyota IST. SUVs start from $125 per day and luxury SUVs from $200 per day, all with unlimited mileage. Yes. Our Christchurch car hire service runs 24/7, with pick-up and drop-off at Christchurch International Airport or anywhere else in the city, such as the city centre or your accommodation. A late arrival or an early flight is never a problem.
Yes. You can start in Christchurch and finish in Queenstown or Auckland, or drive from Queenstown to Christchurch. The drive to Queenstown via Lake Tekapo is a classic South Island car rental route: about 480 km, or roughly six hours. Tell us your drop-off city when you book, and any one-way fee is confirmed with your booking.
You need a current driver licence that is valid for the vehicle, and a way to pay the refundable bond: credit card, debit card or bank transfer. Visitors can drive on a current overseas licence for up to 12 months; if it is not in English, bring an approved translation or an International Driving Permit. Drivers aged 25 and under pay a higher bond.
Every plan includes full comprehensive cover. On the Standard Plan ($38.88 per day), drivers over 25 have a $1,500 damage excess, held as the bond. On the Premium Plan ($59.85 per day), drivers over 25 pay $0 excess and a $500 bond. Drivers 25 and under have a $2,500 bond on Standard or $1,500 on Premium. Where our insurer accepts a claim, cover can also extend to damage you cause to other people's property, up to $10 million.
For Mt Hutt and the alpine passes, choose a 4WD or AWD SUV such as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, BMW X5 or Land Rover Discovery Sport. Ask for snow chains, ski racks or a roof box when you book, and we will have them ready with your car. Please note that our rental terms do not allow driving on non-commercial ski field roads.
Yes. For 7-seater car hire in Christchurch, choose the Nissan Serena or Honda Elysion. If you would prefer an SUV, the BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery Sport seat five to seven. Booster and child seats are available on request, so tell us your children's ages when you book. For bigger groups, we can arrange two cars.

Christchurch Car Rental accepts credit card, debit card and bank transfer. Your rental is paid in full when you book, which confirms your car. The refundable bond is paid at or before pick-up as a transfer to us, not a hold on your card. We keep it for up to 7 working days while the car is inspected, then start your refund within 2 working days. We only deduct charges we can show evidence for, and we tell you about them in writing first.
